Ruka is one of Finland's prime skiing resorts. But even when there is no snow there is plenty of activity in this town, serving as a very convenient base for hiking in the nearby Oulanka National Park. Ruka offers a fine hotel and some nice restaurants and bars. 'Piste.' is recommended, try the 'Etanat', the 'Pannu' and the 'Ritarit'. The RukaProShop offers a choice of hiking gear. Most buses to the trailheads leave from Ruka and there is a taxi station. Ruka Palvelu Oy., the main operator for all kinds of 'adventure trips' is also located here, in the 'Safari House' at the central square. There is a tourist information desk located in the 'RukaKlubi!' building.
